With the recent release of the movie Good night and Good Luck
The title of this report is
Is McCarthyism really gone?
Back in the 1950’s Senator Joseph R. McCarthy of Wisconsin headed the senete investagation committee and started a campaign to root out
Communism in the United States. And on February 4th, 1954 in Charleston, West Virginia. The Senator made it pretty clear who he was going after.
He said the following: The issue between the Republicans and Democrats is clearly drawn. It has been deliberately drawn by those who have been in charge of twenty years of treason. The hard fact is -- the hard fact is that those who wear the label, those who wear the label Democrat wear it with the stain of a historic betrayal.
During the communism trails The Senator claimed that the ACLU a democrat organization had been listed as "a front for, and doing the work of" the Communist Party?
The Attorney General at the time never listed the ACLU as subversive, nor did the FBI or any other federal government agency. And the American Civil Liberties Union holds in its files letters of commendation from President Truman, President Eisenhower, and General MacArthur.
There are several political pundits today who are practicing McCarthyism.
Lets Take a look at what some of them have been saying.
Ann Coulter
Coulter is the shock-jock of right-wing political commentary,
She has said: "Liberals dispute slight reductions in the marginal tax rates as if they are trying to prevent Charles Manson from slaughtering baby seals." There's a certain amount of irony about an author who says "liberals prefer invective to engagement" also declaring, "The good part of being a Democrat is that you can commit crimes, sell out your base, bomb foreigners, and rape women, and the Democratic faithful will still think you're the greatest." But then carefully measured criticism never has been Coulter's shtick--or her appeal.
Coulters Hate Full Qoutes
Liberals become indignant when you question their patriotism, but simultaneously work overtime to give terrorists a cushion for the next attack and laugh at dumb Americans who love their country and hate the enemy.
We've finally given liberals a war against fundamentalism, and they don't want to fight it. They would, except it would put them on the same side as the United States
When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty. We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. Otherwise, they will turn out to be outright traitors.
Whether they are defending the Soviet Union or bleating for Saddam Hussein, liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots, and on the matter of America's self-preservation, the difference is irrelevant.
While the form of treachery varies slightly from case to case, liberals always manage to take the position that most undermines American security.
Ann Coulter is not the only one guilty of Mcarthyism
Karl Rove
Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers
Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year? Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.
Somehow liberals have been unable to acquire from life what conservatives seem to be endowed with at birth: namely, a healthy skepticism of the powers of government agencies to do good. Daniel P. Moynihan
As usual the Liberals offer a mixture of sound and original ideas. Unfortunately none of the sound ideas is original and none of the original ideas is sound. Harold Macmillan
The Liberals are the flying saucers of politics. No one can make head nor tail of them and they never are seen twice in the same place. John G. Diefenbaker
The purpose of this thesis was to examine the state of Mcarthyism in todays world by comparing Senator Mcarthys Words to the words of Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove. And it is pretty clear that Mcarthyism is alive and well.
I personal feel that conservatives attack liberals as traitors today because they are unable to come up with original ideas on their own. They have to watch Fox and copy their talking points.
We liberals are not traitors, We have awesome ideas to correct the nations problems but you will never hear about them while the Republicans control congress and the presidency!!!!! This administration is a massive failure and the liberals need to regain power and bring this nation back on its feet. This administration brought us the Patriot act and Big Brother is now watching. We now live in fear of one another as the person who you cross paths with on the street could be a terrorist!!! But the administration with several of its high ranking members currently in legal trouble will fake a terrorists threat to get our attention of off Rove, Delay and Frists legal troubles. I speak of the recent subway threat in New York that surprise!!!! Was a hoax.
To end this report I will read from the last 3 paragraphs from the transcript of the , March 9, 1954 episode of
See it Now, titled "A Report on Senator Joseph R. McCarthy"
His primary achievement has been in confusing the public mind, as between internal and the external threats of Communism. We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men -- not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular.
This is no time for men who oppose Senator McCarthy's methods to keep silent, or for those who approve. We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot escape responsibility for the result. There is no way for a citizen of a republic to abdicate his responsibilities. As a nation we have come into our full inheritance at a tender age. We proclaim ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, wherever it continues to exist in the world, but we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home.
The actions of the junior Senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies abroad, and given considerable comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his. He didn't create this situation of fear; he merely exploited it -- and rather successfully. Cassius was right. "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves."
Good night, and good luck.
